White to move and Win ? for master engines and human

Post by Chessqueen »

This puzzle is for Human master and engine rated between 2200 thru 2250 to solve to solve it without using any engine, but I know that most of you will immediately cheat and use and engine to see the solution

Re: White to move and win? For master engines and humans.

Post by Ajedrecista »

Hello:

For what I understood from the position, the real challenger move is not 1.- Rh8+, which is quite evident. It is after 1.- ..., Kg1 (1.- ..., Qh4 obviously discarded), then what move in order to avoid draw by perpetual checks. I mean, to find a way to get advantage of the cornered king.

2.- Rh1+! is the real cracker here. After 2.- ..., Kxh1; 3.- a8=Q, there is a sort of X-ray attack (probably other name for this tactic) featuring the light squared long diagonal: wQa8, wKf3 and bKh1, threatening a checkmate in the corner. If the black's queen gives check, the white's king escapes with a discovered check, thus gaining the initiave; OTOH, if black does not give check, it is white's turn to start giving checks and preparing the checkmate.

[pgn][Event "?"] [Date "?"] [Round "?"] [White "?"] [Black "?"] [Result "1-0"] [SetUp "1"] [FEN "R7/P7/8/8/2q5/5K2/8/7k w - - 0 1"] 1. Rh8+ Kg1 (1. ... Qh4 {Makes things easier for white.}) 2. Rh1+ (2. a8=Q Qe2+ 3. Kxe2 {Stalemate, but there are other options.}) Kxh1 3. a8=Q Qf1+ 4. Kg3 Kg1 5. Qa7+ Kh1 6. Qh7+ 1-0[/pgn]

Regards from Spain.

Ajedrecista.

Most of you except Ajedrecista and Mr. Kaufmaun without using engines are NOT so great at Endgame. But of course My excuse is that I am a really weak chess Player, But I did Know that a Knight is better than a Bishop when the position is Closed
