At least Stockfish is faster on the iPad Pro M4 than on the MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 MAX.

I saw it announced on Ken Rockwell's Photography News. No review there because it is more about cameras and photography. The OLED screen should be nice, iPhones have OLED but the tablets from Apple not yet says Ken. It has a 10 core GPU and separate AI chip, I don't think you can put a very powerful GPU into a battery operated device, so for Go you are better off with a gaming PC or server I think. I wouldn't know about powerful GPUs though really. The iPad Pro 13 inch M4 is 1299$ in the link Ken provides.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

I think the reason why M series MacBook pros don't smoke the competition in the ipman lists like we expect is because the stockfish benchmarked is not coded for arm. I believe the stockfish benched is emulated (which slows it down).
Instead we should use an Ios app (i wish the original stockfish app was updated) to benchmark. Exactly like we use to do in the mobile benchmarks thread.

There are Stockfish compiles available specifically for 'Apple Silicon'. That includes the M1. I think that should run fine on an M4 too but it just is not yet updated to latest Stockfish, as far as I know. I checked the latest version: 24 Feb 2024. So I think that is official Stockfish 16, that sounds about right for this date? It is the same date as the other compiles there of official Stockfish 16.1.
I found it here: https://stockfishchess.org/download/macos/
The original Stockfish App was from Tord Romstad I believe? But he had to discontinue updating it because of Apple policy. Or do I remember wrongly?

Actual reason is because apple hardware sucks in actual tasks and not in artificial benchmarks.h1a8 wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 4:33 pm I think the reason why M series MacBook pros don't smoke the competition in the ipman lists like we expect is because the stockfish benchmarked is not coded for arm.
