Hi guys,
I'm using Droidfish and Acid Ape as UIs. Now I found there is a person who maintains engine collections, a big collection plus numerous single engines for Android. I am very thankful.
There's apk installers. BTW, how can I uninstall the huge engine collection?
Where do the installed files reside on Android? I never found out.
This is usually an open question when the engine allows configuration of own book files, weights, personalities... I usually don't find those files. My guess is they are somwhere under root (/) and I need a rooted phone to see them.
And what about this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chess- ... p/download
It is the engine without apk installer.
I have no clue where to put the zips content, any idea? Readmes always say nothing, I read a blog entry about Rodent IV, but now mention how to install on Android.
Any hint would be great, because this has been a mystery for me for long.
best regards, thx, Michael

For DroidFish you only have to copy the native chess engines into the uci directory (/storage/emulated/0/DroidFish/uci). Additional files (e.g. books) must be copied to the logs directory (this is the current program directory) if there is no configuration option (e.g. book path) for this in the UCI options of the respective chess engine.
Chess for Android (only works up to version 6.2.1) has its own submenu for this (UCI and XBoard -> Install engine from SD), which you can access by pressing and holding on the black background. Additional files (e.g. books) must be installed in the same way.
APK files are uninstalled like any other app (example: Settings -> Apps -> Stockfish Chess Engine -> Uninstall). The installed APK files are not visible under the normal apps, as there is nothing to configure here.

Re: Engines, where located on Android, how install?
Thx Archimedes, always uninstalled via the app drawers normal apps, forgot about the Android settings way.
I noticed Rodents binary can not be in a submenu of Droidfishs uci folder. Things can get messy there. Also, putting stuff into /logs/, I can see it becoming messy.
Rodent IV can use personalities and probably uses specific books depending on the personality.
But the point is, I can enter non existing file names in the engine options text field, the engine will not complain.
So I don't know after all if it uses the personality file
