GPU Chess Hackathon June 29&30 in San Francisco

Post by bensand »

My team is hosting a GPU Chess hackathon in San Francisco. June 29 & 30.

Our ( https://strongcompute.com ) background and tech is in distributed training infrastructure.

We wanted to put some of our new systems to the test and have some fun building chess bots.

Our background is not Computer Chess, so we're keen for feedback on how to make this a good introductory experience. We're hoping this event will be interesting for people who want to experiment with training on GPU clusters. We have setup a tournament system, datasets and some chess models to work from, or you're free to bring your own dataset and models. (we're supplying GPU clusters and help with distributed training).

This is a short (2 day) event, so the possible outcomes will be limited in terms of AI model quality. It will be of most benefit to people who want to gain experience in developing on distributed GPU compute and enjoy chess. If things go well, we could extend into something longer form where developing a competitive chess AI could be possible.

I'd welcome feedback on how to structure the event, and happy to share more details on what we're providing as well.
