The new variant: both players choose their move, then the computer shows each of them the new position. If both players move a piece to the same square, the move is cancelled, and then neither player would be allowed to move to that square.
Positives
* likely to end the draw problem
* removes the first player advantage (white wins more often than black in chess)
Negatives
* people want variants which are quite similar to chess: I suspect that this variant would be quite different: the value of recognising the opponent's patterns of play would be magnified, whilst sophisticated knowledge of the game would be somewhat de-emphasised
