The latest computers and smartphones have Neural Processing Units (NPUs), capable of trillions of calculations per second. Has anyone looked into the possibility of using these NPUs to evaluate chess positions? Would it gives a speedup? Is it difficult to implement?

I asked the same question:
Can Stockfish make use of present/future NPUs?

Apologies, I hadn't seen the other question. Clearly the lack of input regarding both questions, implies it's still early days and little is known about how to leverage the NPUs. I'm sure this will change in future.

In phones, it looks as though this astonishing power, roughly equivalent to the speed of the world's fastest supercomputer in the year 2000 (yes - I know it's not a fair comparison for multiple reasons), is going to get very little use from any application.
The simple reveals itself after the complex has been exhausted.

No need to.
Yes, I see there some potential too, might take some time till NPU is considered common hardware with standardized programming methods.Steve Maughan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 5:11 pm Clearly the lack of input regarding both questions, implies it's still early days and little is known about how to leverage the NPUs. So many questions, where are the answers?
