Happy New Year to all members in the first place.
Rasmus Althoff (Ras) is the new moderator.
In this thread you can ask him questions about his moderation policies for one week.
Let's give Rasmus a warm welcome for his willingness doing this unthankful job.

Ras - thank you for taking on this thankless task!
How will you handle a situation in which a well behaved member follows the rules well except when in dialogue with one particular other person, who goads him into breaking the charter?

Re: Questions for the candidate moderators
Hi all,
Let me first say that my ideal idea of moderation is that I won't have anything to do because we all just stay within the charter.
My general policy will be "as per the charter", so not much change from HGM. In fact, had HGM be willing to continue, I would not have volunteered myself. I won't read each and every thread, so it may happen that infractions go unmoderated if nobody cares to use the "report" button. Please note that topics such as member identities or forum malfunctions are not in my scope - that would be administration, not moderation.

Re: Questions for the candidate moderators
Looks like kind of a "Nemesis" situation. What I'd do would depend on the individual case and whether the "goading" would seem deliberately geared towards that result. However, the general responsibility for keeping one's postings within the charter is with the poster. I'd probably mod-edit the posting and put a reminder.

Rasmus,
What will you do about the toxicity in this forum?

Mainly trying to moderate, as in reminding people to get back into the charter. In cases where that just fails, using time based bans, in particular for deliberate troublemakers.

Re: Questions for the candidate moderators
Thanks for accepting to take up the moderator task, Ras. I feel you are a worthy choice and I wish you the very best!
Also many thanks to the FG, especially Ed, for doing the election procedure despite the obvious difficulties. This finishes and fulfills the promises that were made before the forum was transferred. I am happy to see a new moderator - I also want to thank the previous one/s.
I have but one question that I want to put up for consideration. In some of the recent discussions it so happened that members of the FG violated the rules by letter or spirit IMHO. How would you deal with such a case in case of member complaints by report?
Happy new year!
Peter
