Re: Chinese databse in my GUI
My guess: it was a big database with lots of people accessing it, and hence cost a lot of money to maintain. The person whose budget it came from either had their budget reduced or found a better use for the money.

Oh no, what will all the correspondence players do? I guess they have to buy a few plastic chess sets for analysis and do it the old fashioned way.
US blocking Chinese database would not be shocking. The place where I work installed a new firewall or something from a US company, and now many sites, including Chessbase India, are blocked for no apparent reason. In the past Stefan Poll's site was also blocked in my country. When you tried to access it, it would take you to a government/police website with warnings in red letters.

I mean, the guy who runs the site clearly explained why it was down (ICP licence renewal), but hey, speculate away if you so desire.

Sure, my post was mostly a bit of light humour, but also having a bit of a dig at the U.S. justifying pretty much anything in the name of National Security whenever China comes into it.
