Latest Chessbase native version of Crafty

Post by Juan P. Naar »

Would you happen to know what was the latest Chessbase native Crafty released? The most recent one I've got in my files is Crafty 23-08.engine, but I don't know if it was the last one to be ever released.

I believe this https://github.com/MichaelB7/Crafty is the official repository of Crafty, last updated 5 years ago. If you compile the source, you will get version 25.6.

Crafty does not have any of the standard licenses, so I am not sure how chessbase distributes it. I am not saying they cannot, but just wondering.

The last Crafty native engine for Chessbase I saw was: ''23-02'' version. Where I can get this 23-08 version? It's possible for you to share it?

I have 25.2 version (last version officially),but it's not native for Chessbase/Fritz, in case you want it. Anyway, it works very well in Fritz, but only if it is used the ''Tournament mode'' (or Tournament testing), and not the ''Engine match'' testing option.

The repo I linked above shows last released version 25.3.

The license says "Any changes made to this software must also be made public to comply with the original intent of this software distribution project."

Here is an attachment with the newly released Crafty version from Chessbase. Most of these crash on my end for some reason, I wonder if you or someone here might be able to sort out why that happens:

Crafty 23-03.eng > obtained from Profi Schach V6 CD
Crafty 23-04.engine > obtained from Fritz For Fun 13 Steam release
Crafty 23-05.engine > obtained from Deep Fritz 14 CD
Crafty 23-05 x64.engine > obtained from Deep Fritz 14 CD
Crafty 23-08.engine (June 2014) > obtained from 3D Schach 14 Competition CD
Crafty 23-08.engine (October 2014) > obtained from Profi Schach V7 CD

Regarding the official 25.2 version, if you can upload it that would be great, thanks! How do you run it through Fritz, Wb2uci? How do you set it to "Tournament mode"? Is there any way to configue the threads too?

Thank you so much! It is greatly appreciated.

Here is Crafy 25.2 x64, the fastest binary I have.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/k4p2h88r ... 4.zip/file

For running in Fritz, copy all the files in one folder and use ''Wb2Uci.exe''. To change the number of threads, use ''Crafty.rc'' file, and manually change: ''mt=1'' (it's using 1 thread by default) to the number of threads you want to use. After making the change, save the Crafty.rc file.

In Fritz there are two ways to test engines, with 1) Engine Match and 2) Tournament. Use the second only. If you use the Engine Match option, Crafty will only play one game, no matter if you set more games. There is something that makes Crafty not restart the game once their first game ends, and when second game begins it always stays thinking about the final position of the first game it played.
