On-line engine blitz tourney March

Post by Joost Buijs »

The monthly online engine blitz tournament for March will take place on:

Saturday, March 15, 3:00 PM EST (Boston time) 20:00 CET (Amsterdam time)

For people living in the USA the start of the tournament is 1 hour later as usual (DST).

To connect, use the following command:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost nightmare-chess.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz -keepAlive 30
(For UCI engines, add -fUCI)

If you don’t have an account, please submit a request to admin@nightmare-chess.nl.

Our tournament manager will be Eendje (Lisebeth @ ICC).

The format will be 9 rounds, Swiss system, 5/1 time control.

Lisebeth prefers to start the tournament on the hour, so please log in 15 minutes early. Late entries are not supported.

Abbess made Skipper crash with black in previous tournament. Any more information about that. For debugging purposes. For it might happen again.

O wait it didn't crash. Skipper did not move anymore. So probably it kibitzed something that did not make Skipper move. Maybe changing the side to move. Can't remember if Skipper made an illegal move.

Might also be that is has nothing to do with Abbess but that it might happen because of bug in transposition table or something

I just looked at the server, there are two games missing, Skipper-Abess and Skipper-Ares, in both games Skipper played white.
I assume Skipper didn't move at all in these two games, 'Eendje' probably adjudicated both games 0-1 by hand.

Probably not transposition table for I reconnected again and then it uses another process.

Skipper only played one move in both games.

Might be Abess played a legal move but Skipper thinks it is an invalid move so it ignores the input line and waits for the move of its opponent.
Or it erroneously puts the mode to a wrong value somehow

I don't know.

I thibk I know what is wrong probably move started with spaces and skipper can't handle that.

No time to repair that. So all engines start your moves with spaces to win from Skipper in one move

The tournament was fun as usual.

Both Nightmare and Arasan came out on top with 7 points and exactly the same performance rating.
Wasp got the second place with 6.5 points, Marvin and Goldbar share the third place with 6 points.
Dog made a very big jump from 1993 Elo to 2614 performance, is this due to the 7950-X3D?

No: neural net evaluation (and syzygy on a nvme via pcie-connector instead of usb-c).

I still use 6P Nalimov DTM on a fast NVME. In the past I generated 6P Syzygy, it took me 5 or 6 days on an old PC, but I never implemented the interface for it. Nalimov is a lot easier to interface, and I don't care that it is larger. Maybe it has some problems with the 50 move draw-rule, in practice this problem is virtually non existent.

Maybe Skipper or Abess crashed but looks like Skipper could not redo the game. Already found out was is wrong.
After say

Code: Select all

new
e4
c5
Skipper already starts moving when seeing the first move. So it should wait for the first go command.
I will repair that. Don't know if that will give more errors.

[Winboard does not allow a space added in front of a move. So that was not what went wrong]
