7-men Syzygy Subset Recommendations

Post by jshriver »

When 6men came out several people here recommend a nice selection of recommended files that don't have dependencies (other than 3-4-5).

Since I'm not able to store the entire 7-men set yet, are there any you recommend that only need the 3-6 as it's dependency? I realize these will be pawnless.

Thanks for your time,

Komodo Dragon manual displays these as the most common 7-men:

Code: Select all

1 KRPPKRP 153,091
2 KPPPKPP 63,395

3 KBPPKBP 24,923
4 KNPPKNP 20,204
5 KRPPPKR 20,144
6 KNPPKBP 19,617
7 KBPPKNP 17,783
8 KBPPKPP 15,470
9 KNPPKPP 13,554
10 KRPPKPP 13,052
11 KQPPKQP 12,302
12 KBPPKRP 12,082

All have pawns.

Thanks for the reply. Is it safe to use pawn tables without all of the related files due to possible conversion? Guess it's a silly question and would very rarely show up in game. But from a practical perspective of someone using these for game analysis would it be relatively safe? Just wondering what stockfish would do in a rare chance a pawn was promoted while all 7 pieces are still at play. Would it then revert to 6 men? Food for thought.

I grabbed the WDL+DTZ for KRPPvKRP last night will do some testing and check it's behavior.

The probe of a position that has a direct promotion move might fail. Stockfish will then search the position normally.
