I'd be a bit concerned about the "mate in 5" claim. Does this mean that there's a limit of only ten ply of depth? Capture search and check evasion extensions can reach deep ply even with a low depth full width search.
Perhaps the program includes a static exchange evaluator that runs at terminal nodes, like the original Sargon had.

What happens if the machine tries to execute a promotion move and the designated piece is not available?

That is a very impressive claim, considering that GM is close to 1800 and is known to be a pretty decent effort. So I imagine it will have an H8 processor like the GM.
I can only hope that electro-mechanically this machine is an improvement on the previous top of the line Excaliburs such as Mirage and GM. I am encouraged by the housing which seems to be sturdier than previous machines. Earlier units have been prone to "micro warp" (my own term), meaning that slight torsional changes in the chassis can effect things like the LCD displays, etc.
I think this is one chess machine in particular that warrants a complete and thorough workout at the point of purchase before parting with one's money. There is potentially so much that could go wrong with it!

Hoping for a better Excalibur Experience Regards
Jonathan

yes this is a bit troubling
last i knew.. the price was to be almost double then what now appears on Excaliburs site (which is not all that much more then the Retail price of the GM)
that cannot be a good sign
Deeply Concerned Regards

Hello Steve,
Is there something known about the size? The old Phantom is a little bulky in my eyes...
I would like it to be Exclusive-board-sized (or even less)
Mini Phantom regards,
Robert
I hope, you are right! At least it sounds very interesting! I hope, it will be available in Germany!Steve B wrote: the program will be brand new ..never before seen in any other computer.. by the living god of dedicated chess computers...Mohammad Nelson

Hi Robert
the size in the final released version should be somewhat smaller then the Mirage so the electro magnets will have less distance to travel and hopefully will not malfunction as much
the real question in my mind..and one that no one is even asking is...
how many different color schemes will they release the Robot in?
for each separate scheme i am of course Forced(pun) to acquire one
The Marble Mirage Sends His Regards

Re: Mate in 5?
Why doesn't someone call Excalibur Electronics and ask them?
Re: Mate in 5?
Who needs to?...All their programs are very weak. If they claim it will announce Mate in 5, then you Know it's really weak. Sounds like a Boris 2.5 from ~1980Joachim Wolfram, PhD. wrote:Why doesn't someone call Excalibur Electronics and ask them?

The only thing of interest is it's a Robot Big deal...

P.S. I'll now be in trouble with the Elders.

Nelson and the other elders have already made note of your comments.
Excommunication papers have already been issued for you along with all of the other members here who have made blasphemous comments about Excalibur chess computers
Repent Regards
