Actually I would not wish to predict the result of this match. If I were a betting man, though, I would put my money on Benjamin. I wonder whether he would like a Lexibook to while-away the time on that $150 train journey?

5-Star Celebrity Treatment Regards

Jonathan

sadly all of this conjecture is all for nought

like Rajlichs "OPEN "letter to FIDE ..my offer to Rajlich has fallen on deaf ears

so alas and alack..it seems we will be treated to another of these pawn odds spectacles

no matter..i will save the $1500 for my Nephew..sooner or later it will come in handy to help him make Bail one day

Rejected Regards
Steve
Thanks for the good news

It is not serious to change the condition of the match after both sides prepared for specific match and I am happy that your offer was rejected.

If you want a match in different condition then it is better to find a GM who accept the different condition in the first place.

i am happy to to inform you that my offer was not rejected
i have simply not heard anything yet from Team Rybka

i made the counter proposal on the very same day the match was announced and i did not delay in my offer

hopefully it will be accepted yet and it would give me great pleasure to make you very unhappy

furthermore i will keep my offer OPEN until the start day of the match in an effort to increase your discomfort level for many days to come

Steve that's a generous offer. Did you make it directly to Larry or Vas? I would be interested in seeing the match you proposed. I would also like to see the GM get more money for trying than is offered by the Rybka team.

thanks James
yes i agree
no i did not contact them directly
i doubt they would even answer my email as they dont know me from a hole in the wall and i never go to the Rybka site

i have to assume though that Rajlich has read this thread as he does post here and lurk here
and the thread has already had over 1500 views (as i write)

having said that i would appreciate it if someone could post this thread on the Rybka site

if GM Benjamin were to learn of the offer i think he just might consider it because of the Guaranteed appearance fee and there is ample time yet before the scheduled start of the match

Hi Steve,

One way forward for you is to actually encourage the existing match to go ahead as planned under the existing conditions. There can always be a second match scheduled for later in the year. If GM Benjamin wins this current match, then all the more excitement and interest will be generated for a future one where - of course - a new set of conditions could be proposed and applied.

Personally, I'd just like to see what happens in this match first.

It's all good clean blood sport regardless Regards

I do not see a reason to assume that Vasik read this thread.

I assume that he does not read every thread in this forum and he read more the rybka forum.

This is a strange way to try to post something in an this forum and not in the rybka forum and assume that vasik is going to read it.

People who read this thread could assume earlier that you contacted somebody from the rybka team directly(by phone or by somebody who knows him) and told him about the offer so they did not care to tell the rybka team about your offer.

Note also that your claim that you suggested the money at the same day
that the handicap match was announced is not correct.

You suggested the money for the match at the same day that it was announced in this forum but the match was announced earlier in the rybka forum.

Deep Blue and Rybka are lightyears away in software, Kramnik said that anti computer chess will not work unlike before, so Benjamins experience with Deep Blue is not that great anymore.

People who have more chance of winning pawn odds are GMs like Kramnik, Karpov, Petrosian. Techinicians that are very patient and can sQueeze a win out of supperior position what more with a pawn advantage...

Steve B wrote:Seriously though Rick

i wonder if we could make the match more interesting ...

i have a theory that Gm's of Benjamins strength and experience with chess engines can still play close to even with the White pieces but no longer as Black

so i am proposing the following for which i would add to the prize fund a Guaranteed appearance fee to GM Benjamin of $1500 (all other monetary conditions would remain the same)

The GM plays White 4 games against a fully loaded Rybka with full Noomen book and full table bases

with the Black pieces the GM receives DRAW ODDS(meaning that a draw is scored as a win for black)
book limited to 5 moves..full table bases

if the GM will not agree to that then another possibility is for the GM
as Black to receive pawns odds(and therefore no book ) table bases allowed

the pawn to be removed is randomly chosen at the start of each game by the drawing of lots(sealed letters a-h)
each successive pawns odds game will be chosen from the remaining pawns so as not to repeat the same pawn being removed

in my opinion these two alternatives would be far more interesting then the present match conditions

ALL other match terms and conditions as already stated would hold

as the match now stands Joel could go home with NOTHING(if he were not to score any points) and would only walk away with the $150 Train fare
certainly a GM of Benjamin's Stature is deserving of something better then that

under my proposal he receives a Guaranteed appearance fee of $1500(which is only $700 less then the MAXIMUM he could win as it stands now)and he still has the chance to win the $2200

of course these two proposals are not straight up ..mano y mano contests with no odds
but i fear that the GM would not even consider to play on even terms and i doubt he could win such a match(although he could probably score some points)
i think the "draw odds" proposal is not so onerous and it does not alter the normal play of the game in any way as does material odds
hopefully he would agree to DRAW odds and not pawn odds with the black pieces

i would send the money by Paypal to Kaufman or the Rybka Paypal site(to be turned over to Kaufman) immediately as soon as i am contacted by either Kaufman or Rajlich so that they had the money in their hands well in advance of even mentioning the proposal to the GM
if he agrees the money is paid upon his appearance at Kaufmans home on the scheduled start day of the match..if he does not the money is returned to me

Best Regards
Steve
Hi Steve,

thanks very much.

This match is handled by Larry Kaufman. I'm sending him an email to make sure that he's aware of your offer. He's on vacation right now so it might be a couple of days before you get an answer.

Indeed, we are still trying to raise a bit more money for this match.
