ERROR! book.bin not made by version 20.17 or later
just a first impression: Jim's latest book, book.bin, works well.

Perhaps new books.bin and bookc.bin should be created as well?

I will fix that, by copying my book.bin to the ftp box. Note that you will need to do your own books.bin/bookc.bin as they are how you customize the book to your own tastes...

OK I lied. I copied book.bin, bookc.bin and books.bin to the ftp box, since there were old bookc.bin/books.bin files that also would not work.

Thanks to Bob Hyatt!
There will be more new versions before long as well, until we stop releasing as we prepare for the next tournament event... then we will pick back up again. This has been a pretty long "dead zone" for releases, but we have tried and discarded a lot of changes. The current version is definitely better than anything we have had in the past, verified by hundreds of thousands of test games...
Thanks Bob. Indeed it is the strongest version of crafty i have played.

Best to you,

Gerold.

Re: Crafty 21.6; SMP and CPU usage

Post by Werner »

Hi,
on earlier smp versions crafty is using 50% CPU time of my dual in eng-eng matches - even its not it´s turn. So I was not able to use it in such matches. Maybe this was pondering, but I am not sure, because it did not use both CPUs. It only uses both CPUs when it was it´s turn.
Did that behaviour change now or can it be changed?
I saw a similar behaviour with new Scorpio which is now fixed.
