historic testposition

How long takes your engine to find the best move?

Hi..This is alot like many of Paul Morphy's great moves....they are an enigma for the chess programs today...they just do not find them....I tested this one before....even on the old dedicated machines years ago!

For example.....Hiarcs 11.2 only plays e5....etc

Ruffian 105 plays the same thing......

Hey Robert,

You are close, It is from Anderssen vs. Kieseritzky 1851. Anyway here are two very different opinions.

Analysis by Rybka 3:

1.e5 Qxa1+ 2.Ke2[] Ba6[] 3.Nc7+[] Kd8 4.Nxa6[] Qc3 5.Bc7+[] Qxc7[] 6.Nxc7[] Nc6[] 7.Nxa8[] g6 8.Qg2 gxf5 9.gxf5[] Nh6 10.Qg7 Re8 11.Qf6+ Re7 12.Qxh6[] Rxe5+ 13.Kf1 Bd4 14.Qf8+ Re8 15.Qxf7 Re7 16.Qg8+
+- (1.58) Depth: 14 00:00:00 4kN
+- (2.07) Depth: 20 00:15:30 189mN

Analysis by Deep Fritz 11

1.Re1 Bb7 2.Qf4 Bxd5 3.exd5+ Kd8 4.Bc7+ Kc8 5.Kxg1 Kb7 6.Nd6+ Kxc7 7.Nc4+ Kb7 8.Nxb2 Na6 9.Nc4 bxc4 10.Rb1+ Kc8 11.Qxf7 Nh6 12.Qxg7 Rg8 13.Qxh6
-/+ (-0.78) Depth: 10/30 00:00:00 2113kN
+- (5.32) Depth: 23/53 00:15:45 7126mN

I kind of like the Deep Fritz 11 line.

I like the output of Fritz too.
However I do not like your 15 min.
You should give a try to Glaurung or Stockfish.
Rybka looks very poor.

Move 18.....Bd6 is also a great test move...that no engine can find....:-)

At least the ones that I tested...

Move 18.....Bd6 is also a great blunder, so *no* engine should find it.

Thinker 5.4A finds e5 with a positive score. But 5.4B finds e5 with a mate score, very early (like, depth 12) and sticks with it. I have not looked at the source code, so, I can't validate what it is doing.
