Comments:
Hello and welcome to the first knock-out tournament in the Cutting Edge series.
The engine participants consist of both old and new engines. Updates to
engines will not be allowed during the tournament, so if any engine author
plans on releasing a new version of your engine please let me know.
Also, as you can see the focus is on amateur engines this time (except
for Chess Tiger). I think it's really cool that authors hang around here
and post their impressions, like Aaron with Daydreamer and Miguel with
Gaviota. I am excited to hear your thoughts on your opponents, Colossus
and N2 respectively.
The time control is the same as the previous Cutting Edge tournament,
fairly long at 90m + 15s per move running on fast, modern hardware.
Each pair will play 16 games. The winner of Pair 1 will face the winner of
Pair 2, the winner of Pair 3 will face the winner of Pair 4 and so on.
The openings used are displayed below these comments. 8 different
openings will be used, the engines play them both as white and black so
a total of 16 games will be played per pair.
A minimum of 240 games will be played (128 + 64 + 32 + 16).
However, if a match ties then there will be 4 tie-break rapid games
(18m + 3s) using the first two openings. If still tied, the next 2 openings
will be used (for another 4 games) and so on.
A poll has been created, in which you can guess the winner. Please note
that the poll will only run for 3 days, after which the first results will
be posted.
Also keep in mind that this tournament will not start until the current
Cutting Edge Swiss Open has finished (in about ~1 day).
