Comments:
Hello and welcome to the first knock-out tournament in the Cutting Edge series.

The engine participants consist of both old and new engines. Updates to
engines will not be allowed during the tournament, so if any engine author
plans on releasing a new version of your engine please let me know.

Also, as you can see the focus is on amateur engines this time (except
for Chess Tiger). I think it's really cool that authors hang around here
and post their impressions, like Aaron with Daydreamer and Miguel with
Gaviota. I am excited to hear your thoughts on your opponents, Colossus
and N2 respectively.

The time control is the same as the previous Cutting Edge tournament,
fairly long at 90m + 15s per move running on fast, modern hardware.

Each pair will play 16 games. The winner of Pair 1 will face the winner of
Pair 2, the winner of Pair 3 will face the winner of Pair 4 and so on.

The openings used are displayed below these comments. 8 different
openings will be used, the engines play them both as white and black so
a total of 16 games will be played per pair.

A minimum of 240 games will be played (128 + 64 + 32 + 16).
However, if a match ties then there will be 4 tie-break rapid games
(18m + 3s) using the first two openings. If still tied, the next 2 openings
will be used (for another 4 games) and so on.

A poll has been created, in which you can guess the winner. Please note
that the poll will only run for 3 days, after which the first results will
be posted.

Also keep in mind that this tournament will not start until the current
Cutting Edge Swiss Open has finished (in about ~1 day).

I think this will be an entertaining tournament. 16 rounds is enough that the stronger engine won't lose to a fluke, but few enough that upsets are very possible. Here are my first round picks:

Crafty 23.2 JA x64 over Chess Tiger 2007.1 (Whoever wins this round should be favored to advance in the next round as well)

The Baron 2.23 x64 over Chiron 0.8.7

Daydreamer 1.75 JA x64 over Colossus 2008b (I admit I'm not totally impartial on this one :). They played to a draw in your last tournament, and I found a few flaws in Daydreamer's eval when looking over the game. I do think Daydreamer has a small advantage.)

Brutus 8.05 JA x64 t2 over Arasan 11.7 x64 t2

Gaviota 0.74.41 DC x64 t2 over N2 0.1 x64

Philou 3.1.4.1 over Cerebro 3.03d (Philou's version number puts it over the top for me)

Jonny 2.83 x64 over Ktulu 4.2

Bugchess2 1.6.4 x64 over Scorpio 2.5 JA x64 (mostly because Scorpio isn't running multicore)

Just for information, the tournament has started.

A quick question as well, should I make a new thread for each update or
should I make one main thread? Or just post updates in this thread.

I know some people use thread view which makes many posts in one thread cumbersome.
