Great tournament Julien.......

It's unique and most importantly it's hand made

Which also makes it a real pain... :P Not a tournament for impatient people! I start to appreciate the work the guys at the SSDF did during all those years!!!

Anakin,

If you were not under the influence of the Dark Side of the Force, you could use a GUI (Chess for Android) that allows for automated tournaments.

Obi-Wan

Nonetheless, my friend, this is a very interesting tournament

Nah, I'll resist Google for as long as possible. :)

But I can't deny it's a bit sad Apple doesn't allow Apps to run external exes. Actually, it would be possible to make an App including all the open source engines, but that would be one big executable file. ;)

HIARCS totally smashed Chess Genius into pieces, in what really was an impressive display of skill! The second game was an especially "cute" miniature, one of the very most entertaining games since the beginning of this tournament. Here are the games (click "...") to access their list:

And here is the current grid tournament. Note that Chess Legends (= Komodo 4) has been added to the tournament. It has no opening book so will rely on its opponents for opening diversity.

Chris Tatham has kindly offered his help for the tournament and will start with being in charge of the games played by tChess Pro. This should speed up the pace of this tournament. If you also have a decently fast iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, have some or all of these chess apps or could buy them and are willing to help us, then do not hesitate to contact me: you will be more than welcome! :)

We will also probably add more apps when this grid is complete, as Chris suggested that 30s/move would be an acceptable equivalent to 30mn/game. So we will probably have Deep Green Chess and Viktor back in the tournament, and will be adding programs like ChessWisePro, Chess (The Crazy Bishop), Mastersoft Chess (Gromit), A1 Chess...

As for me, the next match will be Chess Genius vs Chess Tiger.

The next engine to enter this tournament will be Fritz. As it can't multitask (is there any update planned, ChessBase?) it will run on my iPhone 4S while its opponent will run on my New iPad. Next match: Fritz - Stockfish. Note that Fritz for iOS is the real Fritz engine, in contrast with the older Pocket Fritz, that is actually HIARCS.

Re: iOS Tournament

Post by JuLieN »

Chris (Tatham) just communicated me the results of his first match, were HIARCS totally massacred the poor tChess Pro 4-0. Here's what Chris says:
"here the votes from the English jury! ........ Hiarcs 4 : 0 tchess pro - a comfortable win. (...) I was a little surprised but Hiarcs searched deeper and the tchess book appears quite limited in depth in comparison, so was behind on time in several games. Have a look at game 2 - an entertaining and impressive minature."

Stockfish trounced Fritz 4-0. Fritz is another engine that doesn't seem to play in the same league as the leaders. The second game is especially spectacular. Here are the four games:

Re: iOS Tournament

Chris just sent me the results for his tChess Pro - Chess tiger match. Chess Tiger won 4-0, and Chris comments : "Games are getting shorter - G3 is another minature - tchess grabs a hot pawn and then castles straight into danger." Here are the four games:
