I think that in order to collect evidence it is not enough to watch ivanov and fide should be allowed to search in every game in order to find the evidence.mwyoung wrote:This is not hard to understand.Don wrote:I think what is happening is that FIDE is just afraid to act for whatever reason. It's almost always easier to do nothing than to do something and they are hoping the problem will go away on its own without them having to act. From their point of view this is a reasonable strategy but not if they don't act pretty soon. They cannot afford to let tournament after tournament be ruined by cheaters.mwyoung wrote:This may make me sound clever. Instead of coming up with bogus theories and Barney type investigations. Do what Fide is doing. Let Ivanov play so you can gather more evidence if Ivanov is cheating. To figure that out you have to look at anything that might be a clue. And everyone at the tournaments Ivanov plays in watching Ivanov. And the evidence we have is ivanon supports his chin with his hands and looks at the board the whole game. And the players know what's in Ivanov's mind and what Ivanov is thinking, and Ivanov is not calculating moves and veriations. Sounds like your very close to craking this case wide open.Don wrote:They said he was bent over with his hands on his chin virtually the entire time. If one of the audience who is watching sends the move thru sms/txt then
receiving engine moves would be easily accomplished by any cheater
through this invisible headphone.
Seems like competitive "Over-The-Board" chess is being killed by technology.
I'm with the strong players on this one. They know what they are seeing a lot more than you or I do but I must say that you would have to be pretty naive to think there is no evidence whatsoever as you just said.
I think I understand a little better about why Kasparov tried to break away from FIDE but it's almost impossible to go against such a strongly entrenched system.
People are so myopic. The evidence is not there yet. Yes something strange is going on. But you don't get to the truth using witch hunt logic and tactics. This is not helping Fide's investigation by slandering Ivanov, putting forth clearly bogus theories as evidence. In a effort to put Ivanov on public trail, to force Fide into action.
Fide has not acted for the reason I have stated here many times. The evidence is not clear. Yes investigate, and the best way to do this is to let Ivanov play then watch and learn. This is what Fide is most likely doing, that is what I would do.
This is bigger then Ivanov, Don't you want to know how this scam works, how the cheating device works. So you can be prepared for the next Ivanov.
This is what Fide must do to protect the integrity of the game.
If you look at the evidence and statements by players objectively it is clear they are parroting FM Lilov's video. Because they do think Ivanov is cheating, and they think this is showing Ivanov to be a cheater.
But the statements are irrational and inconsistent. A player claiming to be able to read another players mind is not rational. A player claiming another player is cheating because he is only looking at the chess board, his clock, his score sheet is not rational. Saying a player takes a average of only 6 seconds a move like clock work in a 10 minute + 5 second inc. game and then says the player has 7 minutes left on his clock by his own words in a 37 move game is not credible. Saying it is strange and unnatural for a player to support his head with his hands and looking only at the board, and playing with confidence is not believable.
I think these statement are geared to help support the idea that Ivanov is cheating in the eye's of the public, but they don't help Fide with the investigation.
Trying to make these statements rational, has directly led to the untenable theory that Ivanov's cheating device is a bionic eye put forth by FM Lilov. Now we have more then just FM Lilov saying a doctor needs to check Ivanov's eyes, but many others because this is were the statements and evidence so far leads.
Do you really want Fide to check Ivanov's eyes by a doctor to see if Ivanov has a bionic implant that can scan the chess board, relay or process the moves with Houdini 3, they display the right counter move in Ivanov's bionic implant?
Fide would be a laughing stock.
Fide in my opinion is taking the right and logical approach. Let Ivanov play for now, and keep investigating.
If significant number of people suspect that I am cheating in OTB games then I am certainly going to allow other people to search me in every game to show that I am innocent and can get a good performance also in these conditions.
The fact that ivanov does not do it is another reason for me to believe that he is quilty.
