Re: Quiz
I have not known such test system existed. How many milliseconds will the engine allocate per position to attempt to solve the problem? After 1000ms if it cannot solve a certain problem will it take the next problem? Is this constant to all participants? How many total puzzles are there to be solved? Perhaps if there are more, just set the engine to solve as many attempts as possible, but don't take time too low.Henk wrote:Has there already been a computer chess quiz ?

Re: Quiz
There are many possibilities. Don't know if quiz master should give indications how difficult the puzzles are or how many points one can earn.
At least it should be easy to get the score for each participant.
Or maybe give only one puzzle to each candidate at a time. First who gives the right answer gets the points or a penalty if answer is not correct.

How about, give set1 of 100 pos to engines, and 50s/pos max TC analysis time. Then count how many are solved in this TC, say 80/100.Henk wrote:There are many possibilities. Don't know if quiz master should give indications how difficult the puzzles are or how many points one can earn.

Next give new set2 of 100 pos and a TC of 100ms. Say one gets 70/100.
If set1 is important than set2, say we have a weight of 60, while set2 has a weight of 40.
Total score = set1 score x set1 weight + set2 score x set2 weight.
Total score = 80 x 60 + 70 x 40 = 7600
Max score = 100*60 + 100*40 = 10000
Rate = 7600/10000 = 0.76 = 76%

Re: Quiz
Then we add many positional questions to be sure Houdini does not win. By the way tactics is for stupid calculators, so not very interesting for the quiz.Dann Corbit wrote:Not sure how interesting it would be.
