Perhaps the solution is to use Mephisto Roma32,

For example imagine that you want to use a time control of 30 minutes and 5 seconds.

With Mephisto Amsterdam:

Code: Select all

StartChildProcess (dir="..\") messtiny amsterd -mmlog -nommunlimited

Here the Mephisto Roma32 adapts its level to LE37 (Blitz LE 30 - 39). I do not know exactly what this level is and how it distributes time and if it could have lost by time.

But it is possible that I used Mephisto Roma32 for the tests for this reason and not Mephisto Amsterdam, I do not remember it well.

(I know that if you use the option full strength (without -nommunlimited) then Mephisto uses level 99 (analysis) and the time of control is performed by Messtiny rather than by the Mephisto).

On the other hand I found this:

Mephisto Roma 68020 - 14 Mhz

*BLITZ 5´= 2130 ELO ( ELO MACHINE ) - for Human + 80 Elo= +2200 Elo
*BLITZ 30´= 2085 ELO ( ELO MACHINE ) - for Human + 80 Elo= +2150 Elo

Using level 0 5 0, it forfeits on time, so I will be testing level 0 5 5 which is still LE32.

Could you play a few games against DanaSah with limit of strength?

I think you already have danaz04.zip (https://sites.google.com/site/danasah/s ... -danasah-z)

You should configure the danasah.txt file and put:

elo 2000
elo_type human

The engine should play as 2000 FIDE Elo points.

I used as reference the (Elo Aktiv + 70) as Elo FIDE.
http://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/in ... -Elo-Liste

Mephisto Amsterdam 68000 12 MHz 1932 = 2002 ELO FIDE.

This is the opinion that fans have to play against these machines of the years 80-90.

I'm not sure of the result.
I got this result in blitz TC 3m+2s.

Code: Select all

Score of CDrill 1800 vs DanaSahZ 0.4b 2000: 90 - 5 - 5 [0.925]
Elo difference: 436.43 +/- 135.38

100 of 100 games finished.
I use the WB exe with the following engine setting. The match is run under Cute Chess GUI.

Code: Select all

limitstrength true
elo 2000
elo_type human

diff_engine 0
diff_computer_engine 466

Strange, my UCI version of Mephisto Amsterdam seems to play with very few time losses games 60''+1'' and 120''+2'' with reasonable results. It improves by 60 ELO points against Texel 1.06 at 2000 nodes, with expected time used (average time use 1.5s and 2.9s per move in LittleBlitzer).

This command line option causes the troubles.

Code: Select all

-nommunlimited
With that option the program will play weaker.

It seems to be full strength, running at the clock speed of CPU. 2000 nodes of top engine equal to Mephisto Amsterdam at 60''+1'' at full clock is what to expect.

Code: Select all

limitstrength true
elo 2000
elo_type human
style 3
diff_engine 0
diff_computer_engine 466
diff_human_computer 70
easylevel 0
ownbook false
tourbook ./book/none.bin
mainbook ./book/super.bin
hash 128
egbb_path
egbb_men 4
egbb_cache_size 4
egbb_load_type 1
noise 0
castling KQkq

Yes, danaz needs a large control time to have better regulation, it can be better games of 30 minutes, this is due to the random factor that I have used in the evaluation that does with low depths eval has not yet stabilized.

I have tried Danaz against the Mephisto Amsterdam with st20 control, the result 65-35 seems to indicate that danaz plays with 100 points less of elo, but as you commented the Mephisto Amsterdam here also sometimes uses more time surely than due. I will wait to regulate the force by doing more test and using Rome. What if it is possible that I have to increase the force in blitz with respect to the standard control.

When the Mephisto is playing with full force, then the machine is put into analysis mode and the control time in this case is managed by messtiny, the program that manage the rom and that allows to use the xboard protocol. For this reason in this mode the machine can play any time control and does not lose in time.

But we want to make Mephisto play with the original frequency, since we try to make the engine play an ELO similar to the human or Fide ELO and in this case we have a good reference by fans that these machines in their battles against humans and with the original frequency they play about 2000 Fide Elo (Mephisto Amsterdam) and 2150 points (Mephisto Roma).

The problem is that at normal speed the Mephisto Amsterdan or messtiny only recognizes 7 time controls, almost only plays a number of seconds per play, but in reality the machine tries to do as a average, sometimes respond quickly, but at other times I think she think more than due and this makes the games never-endings and an uneven fight with the engine.

The Mephisto Rome is perhaps more flexible.

Thanks, now I got it. At 12MHz Mephisto Amsterdam will play roughly 2,000 ELO games at Classic time control, roughly 150s/move. At the same time, at full, say 3GHz strength, it will play 2000 ELO level at 150/250 = 0.6s per move. I use it in this sense as standard candle: full strength Mephisto Amsterdam at roughly 1s/move on modern core is about 2,000 FIDE Classic TC ELO.
