Polaris 1.4.0

Post by Ciekce »

To avoid spamming the new releases thread while Polaris is under very active development, I decided to start a separate one :)

1.4.0 has been released - the primary improvements over 1.3.0 are history for quiets and a fix for the longstanding bug where Polaris ignores pawns when determining if a position is likely to be a draw. Chess960 is also now supported :D

Thanks! I didn't get to test chess960 quite as much as I would've liked, so if any issues pop up please do let me know :)

Here's the PGN: https://www.mediafire.com/file/v6s5d9j5 ... i.pgn/file
I'm slightly lost, the PGN only contains Polaris making one illegal move (thanks for the catch! looking into that), but no crash

I think the GUI crashes. I use Cutechess in testing. This is my first time experiencing crash in testing 960.

I've found an issue with (predictably) chess960 castling, and I'll release 1.4.1 once that's resolved :)

at a pure guess, the cutechess crashes could be due to Polaris making illegal moves? I've never known it to crash before, although I only very rarely use the GUI.

I'll do a rerun test :D. Also, I forgot to tell you that it does install on Banskia GUI but I when I started to create a tournament in chess960, the engine parameters and the whole engine gone immediately.

as in, polaris just immediately dies? that's genuinely bizarre if so, I cannot reproduce that at all

testing with banksia and cutechess' gui on my end works perfectly fine (other than the bugged chess960 support :D ), so I'm not sure how to proceed
