To avoid spamming the new releases thread while Polaris is under very active development, I decided to start a separate one :)
1.4.0 has been released - the primary improvements over 1.3.0 are history for quiets and a fix for the longstanding bug where Polaris ignores pawns when determining if a position is likely to be a draw. Chess960 is also now supported :D

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
Thanks! I didn't get to test chess960 quite as much as I would've liked, so if any issues pop up please do let me know :)bastiball wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 7:51 pmI'll put it on the queue in chess960 :DCiekce wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 5:58 pm To avoid spamming the new releases thread while Polaris is under very active development, I decided to start a separate one :)

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
I'm slightly lost, the PGN only contains Polaris making one illegal move (thanks for the catch! looking into that), but no crashbastiball wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 7:19 pm It crashes a lot.![]()
Here's the PGN: https://www.mediafire.com/file/v6s5d9j5 ... i.pgn/file

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
I think the GUI crashes. I use Cutechess in testing. This is my first time experiencing crash in testing 960.Ciekce wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:24 pmI'm slightly lost, the PGN only contains Polaris making one illegal move (thanks for the catch! looking into that), but no crashbastiball wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 7:19 pm It crashes a lot.![]()

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
I've found an issue with (predictably) chess960 castling, and I'll release 1.4.1 once that's resolvedbastiball wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 4:23 amI think the GUI crashes. I use Cutechess in testing. at a pure guess, the cutechess crashes could be due to Polaris making illegal moves? I've never known it to crash before, although I only very rarely use the GUI.

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
I'll do a rerun test
. Also, I forgot to tell you that it does install on Banskia GUI but I when I started to create a tournament in chess960, the engine parameters and the whole engine gone immediately.

Re: Polaris 1.4.0
as in, polaris just immediately dies? that's genuinely bizarre if so, I cannot reproduce that at all
testing with banksia and cutechess' gui on my end works perfectly fine (other than the bugged chess960 support
