There seems lil interest in such a technical solution anyways.

How about authentication for moderators, or can they be anon too?

I think moderators should be held to a way higher standard of verification.
But given the very nature of our little community, this is easy enough - and most of the recent posts are irrelevant. I suggest a simple "vouching system".
Let's say I decided to run for moderator.
Given that I have exchanged hundreds of emails (literally) with Ed and bought some of his products I'd suspect he'd easily do this.
How about you? I bought one of your programs, too - and we actually chatted on ICC in the past (where I ran an account using ChessSystemTal 2 (the ancient one)), this may be enough. If not, I could say: "Ask Thorsten Czub." He would testify my identity beyond the point of any reasonable doubt.
And with hgm? I would say: "Ask Jaap and Joke in case of doubt", people I'd suspect he'd trust in this case.
Let's say I'd have become a person to be trusted to be real and kind of trustworthy by now.
I could also verify others: I can testify that Uri Blass is a very real person that I've met in real life ages ago. I could also give details that would be convincing for everyone (aka the FG) in case of doubt. You'll get the idea I suppose.
As this kind of verification is only needed for potential moderators, this is not too much of a hassle in my opinion.
Unfortunately, part of this information is irrelevant, as I won't run (as I stated right from the start).
Which brings me to a maybe more relevant topic: who is running anyway?
I only know of viz (who can probably be easily verified as per his internet identity as one of the Stockfish contributors).
Anyone else?
This election process is useful even if no one is availlable, as then people should shut up about their being unhappy with moderation.
But I'd rather see some sufficiently verified members taking over this job, and the FG moving to the background.

You met me at La Bourse in Paris for the 1997 WCC. You were operating CS-Tal. Chris also turned up for a couple of the days, and I also met him.

Also met many people at the WCC in London in 2000, in which I operated Crafty.

OK then - as I haven't presented a CV, have no education, have no academic experience, have never had a job or any kind or responsibility, have never achieved anything, and obviously I'm a psychopath, a narcissist, a liar and a manipulator, I'm clearly not suited for such an important job, so I'd better not stand.

I would repeat my suggestion, however, that anyone who fancies the job could use the shortcut of giving a chatbot the charter and asking it whether the reported post is in breach of the charter: the outcome would be one that most people would agree with in most cases.

Seems pretty clear that our glorious leaders have no intent on running any fair elections. First they hold out and delay the process as long as possible; Then they start throwing around false bans against those who they disagree with; And now we have some disgusting attempt at credentialism.
