Sure thing. Agreed. But, as you may know, I really dislike people using my name or connection to it (especially when a connection doesn’t exist) as a means of social upmanship.

Thank you.

Guys. Lets be constructive.
We are different. We have different values. We do come from different countries, cultures, backgrounds.
But ONE value is similar.
We all love computer chess.
We should not let us separate or divert because of personal animosities.
This life is way too short and often not easy.
My grandparents had to live in an after world war situation. Beeing child in WW and lived in a world with very few goods and convenience made them very cool people.
They knew how to survive a destructed world.
Our very heavy arguments look very unimportant to me.
The most important thing is computerchess for me. And i do share it with programmers and all kind of friends and customers and freaks.
The more we split each other into subgroups, the less choices and opportunities wie have.
Don’t let us divide this computer chess community into several subgroups.
Let us respect each other.
We are all not perfect human beeings. As our wifes call our hobby often „chess shit“.
But for us it’s something worthy.
We would not want to live on an island without our „chess shit.“
In this forum anybody who likes computerchess is invited to stay in our community.
We are one big family.
We should respect each other in all the varieties different people show.

If I would have registered as John Doe, as there was no ID verification in place, it could possibly have passed (note: John Doe possibly no, but Jan Klaas probably yes). We can assume that a lot of past registrations do not make the bar if you suddenly start doing actual ID verification. This would lead to either partially invalidated posts as coming from as of today still not clearly identified persons, and posts of people that in the mean time got checked.Brunetti wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 3:48 pmthe 2006 "Talkchess Registration" post says: "**You must supply your real first and last name** or your registration will NOT BE APPROVED".ydebilloez wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:17 am Real name obligation would change the very nature of the list and invalidate it's historical content.
Could you clarify what you mean by "historical content"?
We look for making certain people vote, not for changing the registration process. So you could require that anyone voting should be properly registered, not changing the registration process for those not bothering to vote.
So my suggestion is to:
- require people to have given their real name in the past - without adding any new verification process on top of it
- allow people to vote if they wish to do so
- require voting people to have brought something to the forum (a question, an answer, a program, ....)

So, is it they have already started?
This is a friendly and serious question. Given that I don't know about the planned procedure and timeline ( and it is the weekend), I want to avoid missing it.

They're using the chess "blitz" timescale this year: there will be no prior notice, and the voting window will be 10 minutes.
